Incontinence / Urinary Leakage
The 3 main types of Urinary Incontinence:
Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) - leaking small amounts of urine with activity e.g. laughing, coughing, sneezing, lifting, exercising, during sexual intercourse.
Urge Incontinence (UI) - a strong and sudden urge to urinate, often accompanied by leaking large amounts of urine.
Mixed Incontinence - symptoms of SUI and UI incontinence together.
The most common form of incontinence is SUI, also known as light bladder leakage. The prime cause is weak pelvic floor muscles, common after childbirth. SUI affects 1 in 3 women globally of all ages. It is more common in women than in men and if not addressed, worsens with age.
You should check with your health provider for a correct diagnosis if you experience any of the following:
• Any leaking of urine.
• Needing to rush when you need to go to the toilet.
• Not being able to 'hold on' when you want to.
• Leaking urine on your way to the toilet.
• Burning or stinging inside when you pass urine.
• Having to strain to start the flow or urine.
