First Aid

First aid is all about the provision of immediate care. At home first aid care will generally be for the treatment of abrasions or grazes. Abrasions or grazes are where several layers of skin have been torn or scraped off the skin's surface. They are usually painful, as millions of nerves are exposed once the skin is broken and are at risk of infection.  Minor cuts usually bleed a lot.  Shallow grazes don't often bleed, but sometimes weep a clear, straw-coloured liquid.  Wounds that are kept moist under an occlusive dressing heal faster and will reduce the risk of infection than wounds left to dry out and develop a scab - this can lead to scarring in some cases.
