Constipation

Constipation is a decreased frequency of bowel motions and trouble passing bowel motions, generally because of hard, dry stools. Constipation occurs when the colon absorbs too much water or if the colon's muscle contractions are slow, causing stools to move through the colon too slowly, making them hard and dry. Causes of constipation include not enough fibre or in your diet, lack of exercise, drastic dietary changes and some medication.

Treatment for constipation depends on the cause, severity and duration. Generally eating high fibre foods and drinking plenty of water will get things moving again.
