Fever in Children

High temperature or fever is not an illness in itself — it is a sign of other problems in the body and is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Fever is thought to be part of the body’s natural defence mechanism, whereby the body attempts to reach a temperature at which the ‘invader’ cannot survive.

TreatParacetamol and Ibuprofen liquids are used for the relief of pain and fever in children. Both Pamol Suspension and Nurofen for Children come in a choice of pleasant tasting flavours and presentations. The appropriate option and dosage will depend on a child’s age and weight — talk to your Radius Pharmacist about which product best suits your child.

ProtectNormal body temperature ranges from 36°C – 37°C. A fever in a child is described as when their body temperature exceeds 37.5ºC. When your child is sick, it is a good idea to check their temperature regularly; making a decent thermometer a must for any young family. The Omron MC270  Digital Thermometer gives you an instant and accurate reading.

The surrounding temperature can easily affect your child’s body temperature. If your child is very hot, take off some of their clothes to allow heat to escape from their body. A tepid bath may also help lower temperature and increase comfort — add some bubbles and make it fun! Remember to keep your child well hydrated.
